A Connecticut nursing home reportedly had a 91-year-old man arrested at the nursing home after he attempted to kiss his wife in her room. The wife has been at the nursing home for one and a half years. The Connecticut police reported that they have been called to the Connecticut nursing home 26 times in the past regarding the 91-year-old man.
On the most recent occasion, the police reportedly were called by the Connecticut nursing home and when they arrived, the man was standing outside of his wife’s room. The Connecticut nursing home reportedly insisted that the man be arreseted, and the police complied, charging the him with criminal trespass. The man was released from custody after he agreed to appear in court on a later date.
The man stated to a news organization after his release, “I was there, and my wife was very happy to see me and then they made me leave. It was all very strange. I’m going to take her out and take her to a more reasonable senior center.”
The police report regarding the arrest reportedly states, “The manager of [the nursing home] stated he could not allow [the man] to do that [kiss his wife goodbye] because they were concerned he would pass items to his wife through his mouth.” The man reportedly had previously obtained an order from a Connecicut probate court that allowed him to visit his wife at the Connecticut nursing home.
The Connecticut nursing home is rated two-stars (below average) on Medicare.gov’s Nursing Home Compare. Most recently, the Health Inspection rating was one-star (much below average). The rating for nursing home staffing was two stars. The quality of resident care was rated at two stars. The fire safety inspection resulted in two stars. The latest survey (May 24, 2018) resulted in 19 citations with some residents determined to be in “immediate jeopardy to resident health or safety.”
