Dr. Nikita Levy, Johns Hopkins Gynecologist: Who Was He?

162017_132140396847214_292624_nDr. Nikita Levy, a former Johns Hopkins gynecologist who committed suicide earlier this month after reportedly admitting to his former employer that he photographed and videotaped his patients without their knowledge or consent, has been in the news this past week (and we expect will be in the news for the foreseeable future) but not because of his medical pedigree, his medical knowledge, or his medical experience but rather for his alleged unspeakable violation of the privacy of his patients, his violation of the trust and his breach of discretion that his patients had relied upon, and the emotional harms suffered by his numerous victims (as many as 1,000) who believe that they may have been violated by their doctor’s insidious covert actions but do not presently know the extent of what occurred or the extent that their own privacy has been violated or exposed.

The initial lawsuits on behalf of some of Dr. Levy’s victims have already been filed and we suspect that many more will be filed in the months ahead alleging that Dr. Levy harmed his patients by his surreptitious photographing and videotaping them. In light of the allegations against Dr. Levy, we researched his background and reputation before the recent revelations of his wrongdoings.

Who Was Nikita Levy, M.D.?

Nikita Alexander Levy, M.D. was 54-years-old and married when he was found dead in his home on February 18, 2013, due to an apparent suicide (it has been reported that a plastic bag was found over his head).  Dr. Levy had graduated in 1984 from Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Levy completed his residency in 1988 at Suny Downstate Medical Center and had worked at the Johns Hopkin’s East Baltimore Medical Center, a Johns Hopkins community clinic close to the Johns Hopkins Hospital’s main campus in Baltimore, Maryland, since 1988.

Dr. Levy was Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Levy’s medical license in the State of Maryland (D37128) was issued on July 25, 1988 and was not due to expire until September 30, 2014. His Practitioner Profile maintained by the Maryland Board of Physicians as of February 22, 2013 reported no disciplinary actions against him within the past ten years and no pending disciplinary actions, as well as no medical malpractice judgments or arbitration awards against him within the past ten years and no convictions of crimes involving moral turpitude. His primary practice location was reported as Johns Hopkins Community Physicians located at 100 E. Eager Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.

From our Google search of Dr. Levy’s reputation before the recent allegations came to light, Dr. Levy’s patients held him in high regard and trusted him with their most-personal gynecological care in Baltimore since 1988.
